Parameter
-
Silicon
Value
- 10,000 ppm
Characteristics
-
Provides silicon, required for cellular reproduction in poriferans and several important classes of marine phytoplankton.
-
Active Components: Potassium silicate, hydrated.
Basic Application
-
1 mL per 0.941 gallons (3.560 L), provides 2.809 ppm [Si].
-
Reference Standard [Si]:
-
2.809 ppm (S=35.0)
-
3.210 ppm (S=40.0)
-
-
Determine [Si] in system prior to commencing dosing.
-
In established systems, increase [Si] up to 5% of existing ionic value daily, until desired value or reference standard is reached.
-
Recommended initial dosage rate is 1 drop (0.05 mL) per 50 gallons (189.27 L)
-
-
Rate of silicon depletion is unique to each independent recirculating ecosystem, and is influenced by biological, chemical, and physical factors, all of which are dynamic. Therefore, there is no standard dosage which can be prescribed for any two independent systems, and weekly ICP analysis is suggested in order to monitor the [Si] and avoid overdosing. It is not recommended to establish a dosing rate for a 7-day period of time and continue with that dosing regimen for longer than that period, as overdose will likely occur.
-
To obtain accurate silicon values, Captiv8 Aquaculture recommends ICP conducted by Reef Masters.
